P455 - Portland Hill

Meeting point for
events: Riders meet and sign on for races outside the public
house in Victoria Square, Portland on the A354 immediately adjacent
to the start. There is car parking in a public car park opposite,
but there is free on-street parking in close proximity to the
finish which is a better option. Please do not park on the course.
Course description:
START on A354 on the eastern side Victoria Square approximately
10 yds south of bus stop. Follow the A354 in the direction of
Easton and proceed via Victory Road to Cadets Corner, where keeping
to the A354 take the RIGHT turn into Castle Road and Osbourne
Road to Fortuneswell. Continue forward on the A354 into New Road
and Priory Road to the roundabout at Yeates Corner, outside the
Portland Heights Hotel. Take the first exit LEFT off the roundabout
towards New Ground and in approximately 50 yds CARE at sharp right-hand
bend. Continue for approximately 100 yds to FINISH at War Memorial.

Course notes:
P455 is a mixed course probably suited more to road riders than
hill climb specialists. There are some steep parts, some steady
climbing parts, some flat and even a slight downhill. The course
was first used as an evening stage of the 1972 Milk Race (two
week amateur Tour of Britain) and was won by that year's overall
winner Fedor Den Hertog of the Dutch national team.
